Solid cloud cover today, with a faint SSW drift with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Carlo are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac Carlo is a Quebec water. It lies 652 metres above sea level. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 1.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Some 49 km away sits Saint-Fulgence, the nearest settlement. For a city, Saguenay is 60 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Carlo the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Typical July readings run about 15°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid May. Climate figures give an open season running mid May to early November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. On Lac Carlo the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Rocheux, 0.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Carlo for certain.
