Overcast skies today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Lac Carling. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Outaouais, Quebec. What surrounds it is mixed forest. It runs to roughly 10 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 1.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is low-lying compared with other Quebec water we list. Head to Thurso, 17 km away, for anything you forgot. Ripon is 18 km and Buckingham 20 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Carling responds to conditions more than to tactics.
In an average year July sits at 19°C and January at -13°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near early December in autumn. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Expect Lac Carling to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac de la Boue sits 0.4 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac Carling in particular, ask before you travel.
