A grey, even sky over the water, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Lac Canot around bays that hold the day's warmth. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Lac Canot in the Mauricie part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 548 metres. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. Nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 50 km away. Saguenay sits 192 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Canot the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -18°C on the long-run figures. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Lac Canot the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Cabane, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac Canot as something to verify.
