Dull, settled light over the water, with air barely moving with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Canet around sheltered bays and points. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Quebec holds Lac Canet, in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. Northern bush runs right down to the water. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is a small entry by Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean standards. Leblanc at 84 km is the nearest place to stop. Saguenay is the closest city, 231 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Canet light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -18°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lac Canet rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Pluchon at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lac Canet are worth checking on the day.
