Overcast skies today, with a light S breeze and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Canards will be around reed fringes and open pockets. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Canards is one of the Outaouais listings for Quebec. The water sits 257 metres up. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Lac-Simon is the closest place, 14 km off. Further out sit La Conception (16 km) and Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel (18 km). The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Work Lac Canards in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. On Lac Canards that shapes the whole year.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac de la Carpe is 0.9 km off. Where Lac Canards is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
