Passing showers with dry spells between, with a soft SSW wind and pressure going nowhere. On Lac Campbell, work the seam between weed and open water first. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Nord-du-Québec, Lac Campbell is a Quebec water. The setting is boreal forest. At 10 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. There is roughly 2.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Most waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec are larger. 1 km away sits Chapais, the nearest town. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 314 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Campbell a short move beats a long cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Lac Campbell fishes to that pattern most years.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A carry of 1.2 km from the nearest parking is the price of fishing here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Springer, 3.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lac Campbell locally before you travel.
