Flat light and a covered sky today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Caize will be around the shaded margin through bright spells. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Caize lies within the bounds of Lanaudière, Quebec. Around the bank it is boreal forest. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. A shoreline of some 2.1 km keeps the choices simple. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Saint-Michel-des-Saints is the closest place, 30 km off. Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm is 50 km and Manawan 52 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Lanaudière records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. The shape of Lac Caize rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -15°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac Caize follows the weather closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Lac Regas is 1.5 km distant. Where Lac Caize is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
