A grey, even sky over the water, with barely a breath of wind with a settled glass. The fish at Lac Cache are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Cache is a Mauricie water, Quebec side. It stands 512 metres above sea level. Around 15 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 2.2 km on foot. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Leblanc lies 37 km from the water. Saguenay sits 238 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Cache a short move beats a long cast.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Cache.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Honorius sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow.
