Showers crossing the water today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Brule will be around the calm side of the wind. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean entry here is Lac Brule, in Quebec. Around the bank it is boreal forest. The water covers some 66 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 6.7 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. Saint-Honoré sits 51 km from the bank. The big place round here is Saguenay, 62 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac Brule gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid May. On average, mid May opens the water and early November closes it again. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Brule rarely departs from it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A slipway 1.4 km out gives trailer access. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Lac du Sourire is 1 km off. Treat Lac Brule as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
