Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Braille is the seam between weed and open water. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In Quebec, Lac Braille belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. It stands 374 metres above sea level. At about 50 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 3.2 km on foot. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. Chibougamau sits 91 km from here and is the nearest stop. Then Chapais, 101 km, and Normandin, 101 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Treat Lac Braille as a water to read rather than to cover.
The seasonal spread runs -18°C to 16°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Braille.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac des Boutons-d'Or at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lac Braille are worth checking on the day.
