Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a kind ENE breeze on the water and steady pressure. Start the search at Lac Bourget along windblown banks where food collects. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. A cold snap day, so work the warmest water you can find.

Lac Bourget lies within the bounds of Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. Country round the bank runs to northern bush. Surface area runs to roughly 5.34 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. There is roughly 30 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. It is one of the larger waters we list anywhere in Quebec. The closest town, Puvirnituq, is 85 km distant. Salluit follows at 185 km, then Inukjuak at 262 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Salt or brackish and tidal: fish the flow, rest at slack, and watch the mud on a falling tide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, Pacific cod and brook trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Bourget the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
On the long-term average, July reads 11°C and January reads -25°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The lid usually goes in mid June, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice clears near mid June and comes back about late October in a typical year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Bourget.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Lac Isuilutaq is 18 km off. Treat Lac Bourget as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
