An even grey lid over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NNW with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Boulianne should come off points where shallow meets deep. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean entry here is Lac Boulianne, in Quebec. The sea is 29 km distant. It measures about 12 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 2.0 km of margin, front to back. For supplies, Saint-Honoré is 20 km out. Saint-Ambroise lies 20 km off, Labrecque another 27 km. Not far off: Lac Betsy just 1.1 km, Lac Leandre at 2.5 km, Lac Rond just 2.9 km, Lac Pednault at 3.2 km and Lac en l'Air just 3.3 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Lac Boulianne in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The range across the year is -18°C to 17°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Lac Boulianne the same rules apply, with local timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Betsy sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Lac Boulianne is worth confirming on the day.
