Lac Beath Fishing in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec

• Overview

  Lac Beath is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. It lies 655 metres above sea level. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is high ground by Quebec standards. For supplies, Saint-Honoré is 49 km out. Saint-Fulgence follows at 56 km, then Saint-Ambroise at 56 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.

• Where to Fish on Lac Beath

  No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Beath responds to conditions more than to tactics.

  Climate normals give 15°C for July and -19°C for January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid May. The lid tends to go about mid May and return around early November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest.
