Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with flat calm through the day with the barometer flat. Activity on Lac Bau should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Bau is an Abitibi-Témiscamingue water, Quebec side. Elevation runs to 337 metres. Surface area is around 30 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 2.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. Val-d'Or is the closest town at 63 km. For a city, Gatineau is 274 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Abitibi-Témiscamingue names northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Lac Bau should walk it once before setting up.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -15°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. On average, early May opens the water and late November closes it again. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Time your trip to Lac Bau by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. You can camp about 1.1 km away, going by the mapping. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac des Schistes, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Bau before loading the car.
