Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Barnes should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Lac Barnes is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. The surface lies 190 metres up. Roughly 87 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge covers about 5.5 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It ranks high for size among our Outaouais listings. Shawville is the closest place, 20 km off. Further out sit Fort-Coulonge (32 km) and Constance Bay (34 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Barnes responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -13°C in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. On average, late April opens the water and early December closes it again. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Barnes more years than not.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac a Murrell, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Lac Barnes carry more weight than any list.
