An even grey lid over the water, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind with a settled glass. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac aux Billots. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac aux Billots sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. The setting is rolling bush. It runs to roughly 33 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 3.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Size puts it in the front rank of our Outaouais list. Wakefield at 10 km is the nearest place to stop. Gatineau is the closest city, 33 km away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac aux Billots the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -13°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Lac aux Billots.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Petit lac du Brochet, 0.7 km away. Signs at Lac aux Billots carry more weight than any list.
