Flat light and a covered sky today, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. On Lac Artemis, work inflow corners and shaded margins first. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac Artemis. The bank gives way to boreal forest. Surface area is around 45 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 2.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The closest town, Chapais, is 58 km away. Chibougamau follows at 58 km, then Mistissini at 118 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Lac Artemis gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. At Lac Artemis the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac Rohault, 3.9 km away. Rules at Lac Artemis are worth checking on the day.
