Soft grey light all day today, with barely a breath of wind and pressure going nowhere. On Lac Arguin, work shallow cover and weed edges first. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac Arguin in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. What surrounds it is taiga. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Honoré, 43 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 55 km off. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Lac Arguin for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 15°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Break-up comes around mid May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running mid May to early November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Time your trip to Lac Arguin by conditions rather than dates.
We hold no note on access for this one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Levasseur, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Lac Arguin carry more weight than any list.
