Solid cloud cover today, with stillness over the whole water with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Argaut should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Argaut, in Quebec. Taiga runs right down to the water. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Leblanc is the closest place, 41 km off. The nearest city of size is Trois-Rivières, 249 km away. Also worth knowing: Lac des Coloris out at 2.2 km, Lac du Renne 2.4 km away, Lac Moore out at 3.2 km, Lac Simis 3.2 km away and Lac Meunier out at 5 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The near bank of Lac Argaut is often the one people ignore.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -17°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Lac Argaut follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac des Coloris at 2.2 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac Argaut as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
