Heavy overcast holding through the day, with an easy breeze from the S with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Amable should come off shallow cover and weed edges. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

This water sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The water sits 371 metres up. It measures about 20 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 3.7 km, small enough to learn in a day. Pont Rouge sits 75 km from the bank. Further out sit Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc (76 km) and Labrecque (77 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Lac Amable where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac Amable fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lac en Galoche is 2 km distant. Treat access at Lac Amable as something to verify.
