A grey, even sky over the water, with mild air moving in from the SW with a settled glass. On Lac Alpaga, work sheltered bays and points first. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

In Quebec, Lac Alpaga falls inside Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The land about it is rolling bush. It measures about 16 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Bank access stretches around 2.7 km in total. Nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 111 km off. After that come Val-d'Or at 113 km and Maniwaki at 122 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Alpaga responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -16°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near late November in autumn. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It holds true on Lac Alpaga more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac des Volutes at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Alpaga before loading the car.
