Passing showers with dry spells between, with calm air over the water with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Alfredo are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Alfredo. The surface lies 513 metres up. Surface area is around 82 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 8.7 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Few waters listed in Mauricie are bigger. Nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 52 km away. Saguenay sits 180 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Lac Alfredo is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Lac Alfredo follows the weather closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac de la Traverse sits 2.3 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Alfredo in what we hold.
