Showers crossing the water today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Arctique around points where shallow meets deep. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Arctique. The water sits 497 metres up. It runs to roughly 28 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 4.1 km, small enough to learn in a day. For a base, Weymontachie sits 48 km out. Further out sit Leblanc (59 km) and Saint-Félicien (90 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac Arctique gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs -18°C to 16°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. On Lac Arctique the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Lac Encore at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Arctique are worth checking on the day.
