Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with air barely moving and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac a l'Ours should come off points where shallow meets deep. One clear peak today: the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac a l'Ours lies in Lanaudière, Quebec. The ground round it is pine and birch. The water covers some 16 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 25 km is the nearest place to stop. Trois-Rivières sits 87 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Lac a l'Ours should walk it once before setting up.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac a l'Ours.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lac Ecartant at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac a l'Ours, the notice at the access point is the final word.
