Heavy overcast holding through the day, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Lac a l'Ile should fish best around the seam between weed and open water today. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac a l'Ile. Elevation runs to 416 metres. At about 10 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 1.6 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Leblanc at 34 km is the nearest place to stop. Weymontachie is 56 km away, with Saint-Félicien at 112 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Work Lac a l'Ile in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac a l'Ile.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac Fouet, 0.6 km away. For Lac a l'Ile in particular, ask before you travel.
