Soft grey light all day today, with mild air moving in from the SSW with a settled glass. Most of the action on Lac a la Couleuvre should come off the calm side of the wind. A stay-home graph, with the evening as the one excuse to go. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Within Côte-Nord, Quebec, you have Lac a la Couleuvre. The country round it is taiga from end to end. It runs to roughly 18 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Roughly 2.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Hauterive at 12 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Baie-Comeau at 14 km and Chute-aux-Outardes at 22 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac a la Couleuvre gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -15°C for January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about late November in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac a la Couleuvre.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Antoine, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Lac a la Couleuvre is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
