Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with dead-still conditions and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac a Jack is sheltered bays and points. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In Quebec, Lac a Jack belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The land about it is northern bush. Around 18 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 2.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Saint-Honoré is the closest town at 40 km. Then Saint-Fulgence, 47 km, and Saint-Ambroise, 48 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac a Jack repays a walk before the first cast.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid May. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near early November in autumn. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac a Jack rarely departs from it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. The nearest alternative is Lac du Jaseur, 0.7 km out. None of that is settled for Lac a Jack in what we hold.
