Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with a gentle ripple from the W with a settled glass. On Wisner Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Wisner Lake is one of the Greater Sudbury waters in Ontario. Height above sea level is 352 metres. Roughly 27 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 4.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Capreol is the closest place, 8.8 km off. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 31 km off. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Greater Sudbury include smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Wisner Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -14°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Wisner Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Blueberry Lake sits 3.2 km off and takes the overflow. Treat Wisner Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
