• Where to Fish on Grassy Lake

Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Greater Sudbury list smallmouth bass, yellow perch and northern pike. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Grassy Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.

• Seasonal Patterns

Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan any trip to Grassy Lake around it.

• Tackle & Baits

The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Cache Lake, 2.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Grassy Lake are worth checking on the day.
