Soft grey light all day today, with a busy NW wind on the open water and pressure going nowhere. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Windabaic Lake. The evening carries the best of the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Windabaic Lake lies in Sudbury, Ontario. It sits in boreal forest. At about 11 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The bank runs about 3.0 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Sudbury. Head to Chapleau, 52 km away, for anything you forgot. Wawa follows at 60 km, then Hornepayne at 138 km. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Sudbury list smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Windabaic Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Windabaic Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Keneswabe Lake sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Windabaic Lake before loading the car.
