A still, cloudless night on the water, with enough NW wind to stack food downwind and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Hylo Lake should be near the seam between weed and open water. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

This water sits in Algoma, Ontario. The bank is 415 metres above sea level. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. Wawa sits 53 km from the bank. Chapleau follows at 56 km, then Hornepayne at 137 km. Close by you have: Oombash Lake (2.4 km), Howland Lake within 2.5 km, Nahokeesio Lake (2.7 km), Porky Lake within 2.7 km and Bertrand Lake (3.2 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Algoma list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Hylo Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 16°C in July. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Hylo Lake that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Oombash Lake, 2.4 km away. None of that is settled for Hylo Lake in what we hold.
