Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Ulster Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Out in Sudbury, Ontario, sits Ulster Lake. It sits at 435 metres above sea level. Small at around 7 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Most waters listed here for Sudbury are larger. Head to Dowling, 33 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Rayside-Balfour at 40 km and Azilda at 50 km. If this one is busy: Present Lake 2.2 km, Straight Lake 3.2 km away, Marion Lake 3.7 km, Retort Lake 4.3 km away and Capper Lake 4.7 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Sudbury: smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Ulster Lake should walk it once before setting up.
The year swings from about -14°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It holds true on Ulster Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Present Lake at 2.2 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Ulster Lake are worth checking on the day.
