A cloudless sky and strong light today, with a light chop building from the W and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Tyson Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Sudbury, Ontario, this is Tyson Lake. It sits in rolling bush country. Surface area runs to some 11.79 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. Some 92 km of shoreline means conditions can differ from one end to the other. On our Sudbury list it sits near the top for size. Lively is the closest town at 35 km. Further out sit Greater Sudbury (42 km) and Azilda (48 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Sudbury records list smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye among the fish reported. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Tyson Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Long-term averages put July at about 19°C and January near -11°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That shapes the year on Tyson Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lone Lake is 2.6 km distant. For Tyson Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
