No direct sun expected today, with a firm WNW blow with the glass holding level. Start the search at Traves Lake along the shallows early and the drop later. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Traves Lake is a Parry Sound District water, in Ontario. The water sits 217 metres up. Surface area is around 25 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 3.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. The closest town, Parry Sound, is 16 km distant. Beyond it, Penetanguishene at 50 km and Bracebridge at 52 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Parry Sound District include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, northern pike and rock bass. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Traves Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put July at about 19°C and January near -9°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Break-up sits around mid April on average, with the water closing again about early December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It holds true on Traves Lake more years than not.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. If the gate is shut, Josh Lake at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. For Traves Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
