A clear night sky over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and steady pressure. The productive water at Traill Lake will be around the calm side of the wind. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Traill Lake is a Cochrane District water, in Ontario. It stands 280 metres above sea level. The water covers some 75 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 8.6 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Nearest place of any size is Iroquois Falls, 29 km away. Cochrane is 58 km and La Sarre 81 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Traill Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -18°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. On Traill Lake that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Marathon Lake, 5 km out. For Traill Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
