Drifting cloud with decent bright gaps, with a working W breeze and no real change in pressure. Jam Lake should fish best around inflow corners and shaded margins today. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Jam Lake is one of the Cochrane District waters in Ontario. Elevation runs to 273 metres. It measures about 30 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 3.9 km, and most of it is walkable. The town to know is Iroquois Falls, 39 km out. Then La Sarre, 70 km, and Kirkland Lake, 70 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Cochrane District, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Jam Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Jam Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Eastford Lake at 7.6 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Jam Lake carry more weight than any list.
