Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a steady W wind and steady pressure. On Teal Lake, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Teal Lake stands in Nipissing District, Ontario. The surface lies 374 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 10 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Around 2.2 km of margin, front to back. Chalk River at 50 km is the nearest place to stop. Then Deep River, 52 km, and Petawawa, 59 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Nipissing District, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Teal Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -13°C at the bottom of winter. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Teal Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Sparrow Lake at 2.2 km is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Teal Lake if anything is unclear.
