Moonlight in and out behind the cloud tonight, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Tate Lake will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop.

Night
Look for Tate Lake in Lanark County, Ontario. It sits at 267 metres above sea level. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Nearest place of any size is Sharbot Lake, 30 km away. Perth is 31 km and Carleton Place 36 km. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, rock bass and smallmouth bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Tate Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The range across the year is -11°C to 19°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. From about mid April to around early December, expect open water on the long-run figures. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Tate Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Paddys Lake sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Tate Lake is worth confirming on the day.
