Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with barely a breath of wind and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Syko Lake will be around bays that hold the day's warmth. The numbers single out the middle of the day. Keep moving until you find them. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Syko Lake in the Sudbury part of Ontario. It stands 425 metres above sea level. It measures about 54 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline length is close to 9.3 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Nearest place of any size is Dowling, 97 km away. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 124 km distant. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Syko Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 17°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Syko Lake follows the weather closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Moonshine Lake, 7.2 km away. Signs at Syko Lake carry more weight than any list.
