A bright day with hardly any cloud, with air barely moving and no real change in pressure. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Moonshine Lake. A broad window opens from afternoon into evening. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Sudbury, Moonshine Lake is an Ontario water. The surface lies 413 metres up. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. A shoreline of some 2.0 km keeps the choices simple. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sudbury list. Dowling at 94 km is the nearest place to stop. Rayside-Balfour follows at 99 km, then Elliot Lake at 104 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Moonshine Lake a short move beats a long cast.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 17°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Moonshine Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Myre Lake is 1.8 km distant. Nothing on Moonshine Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
