Solid cloud cover today, with calm air over the water with the barometer flat. On Studd Lake, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Studd Lake is a Kenora District water, Ontario side. It stands 276 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to roughly 4.62 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The outline measures near 22 km, so local knowledge counts. On our Kenora District list it sits near the top for size. Greenstone sits 174 km from the bank. Further out sit Geraldton (180 km) and Longlac (189 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Treat Studd Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
The range across the year is -21°C to 16°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. From about early May to around early November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Studd Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Kellow Lake, 9.4 km away. For Studd Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
