Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with an easy breeze from the W and no real change in pressure. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Stringer Lake. The productive run goes afternoon into evening. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Stringer Lake sits in Algoma, out in Ontario. It lies 320 metres above sea level. At about 45 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 3.2 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Blind River sits 42 km from the bank. Beyond it, Elliot Lake at 42 km and Thessalon at 46 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Algoma: walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Stringer Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -12°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Stringer Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Bull Lake at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Stringer Lake are worth checking on the day.
