A clear night sky over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WNW with the barometer flat. On Hoover Lake, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. The day fishes best from afternoon into evening. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Hoover Lake is set in Algoma, Ontario. It sits at 382 metres above sea level. It measures about 35 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 3.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Thessalon sits 43 km from here and is the nearest stop. Then Blind River, 45 km, and Elliot Lake, 48 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Algoma: walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. At Hoover Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -12°C in January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Hoover Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Rowe Lake at 1.8 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Hoover Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
