Hard light and clear air over the water, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with a settled glass. Fish at Stop Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Stop Lake falls in Kenora District, part of Ontario. Around the bank it is mixed forest. With some 24 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 2.6 km, and most of it is walkable. Our Kenora District list holds plenty of bigger water. The closest town, Kenora, is 43 km distant. After that come Vermilion Bay at 84 km and Red Lake at 106 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Stop Lake decides where the fish sit.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It sets the rhythm of the year at Stop Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Musky Narrows Lake at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Stop Lake in what we hold.
