Stars out and no cloud tonight, with mild air moving in from the SSE and steady pressure. Fish at Stokes Lake should hold close to shallow cover and weed edges. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Stokes Lake is one of the Kenora District waters in Ontario. The surroundings are lake country bush. Surface area is around 16 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The full circuit measures close to 3.6 km on foot. On size it sits at the modest end of our Kenora District list. Head to Kenora, 22 km away, for anything you forgot. Vermilion Bay follows at 63 km, then Moose Lake at 94 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Kenora District names northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Stokes Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
July runs about 19°C on average, January about -17°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Stokes Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The nearest mapped parking is 720 m away, so the last stretch is on foot. There is a campsite 620 m from the water. A rest area sits about 960 m from the water. A toilet block sits 590 m away. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Muskie Lake is 2.5 km distant. Nothing on Stokes Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
