Flat light and a covered sky today, with a whisper of wind from the SSE and no real change in pressure. The fish at Stella Lake are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
In Ontario, Stella Lake falls inside Kenora District. It sits at 330 metres above sea level. Roughly 19 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 2.0 km, and most of it is walkable. Our Kenora District list holds plenty of bigger water. For a base, Kenora sits 26 km out. The big place round here is Winnipeg, 212 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records hold no depth for this water. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Stella Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Stella Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lac la Belle is 2.3 km distant. Nothing on Stella Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
