Flat light and a covered sky today, with air barely moving and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Star Lake around sheltered bays and points. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Star Lake falls in Algoma, part of Ontario. The ground around here is rolling bush. With some 57 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 6.8 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Elliot Lake lies 32 km from the water. Espanola is 60 km away, with Blind River at 66 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Star Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between -13°C in January and 18°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Star Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Access is not recorded for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Robert Lake is 1.5 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Star Lake for certain.
