Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW with a settled glass. On St. Clair Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. Nothing special in any period, but nothing dead either. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Set in Kenora District, St. Clair Lake is an Ontario water. The bank is 359 metres above sea level. About 1.61 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. The shoreline runs about 6.0 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Supplies mean a trip to Vermilion Bay, 49 km off. Further out sit Dryden (54 km) and Sioux Lookout (76 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Kenora District, recorded fish include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. St. Clair Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At St. Clair Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Angood Lake at 4.2 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position at St. Clair Lake before loading the car.
