Wet weather working through today, with a firm SSE blow with the glass holding level. Activity on Spruce Lake should centre on sheltered bays and points. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Spruce Lake falls in Parry Sound District, part of Ontario. What surrounds it is rolling bush. About 2 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Parry Sound District list. Parry Sound at 21 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Penetanguishene (75 km) and Midland (79 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Parry Sound District list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Treat Spruce Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Typical July readings run about 19°C; by January the average is down near -8°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid April and starts locking again about early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Spruce Lake follows the weather closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Christie Lake at 2.3 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Spruce Lake are worth checking on the day.
