Overcast skies today, with a working WSW breeze with the barometer flat. The productive water at Sobie Lake will be around points where shallow meets deep. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Sobie Lake lies in Nipissing District, Ontario. What surrounds it is lake country bush. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The outline measures near 5.4 km, so local knowledge counts. Some 25 km away sits Powassan, the nearest settlement. After that come Callander at 27 km and Mattawa at 35 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Nipissing District names smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Sobie Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -13°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Sobie Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Little Clear Lake, 2.5 km away. Nothing on Sobie Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
